SPORTS. Athletes competed in Sparta, Andover, and Byram this weekend in the 10th Annual Pass It Along Triathlon.
Triathletes enjoyed hot, but beautiful weather for the 10th Annual Pass It Along Triathlon on Saturday, July 27, at Lake Mohawk in Sparta. The run was mostly flat, and 30 lifeguards were on duty as athletes competed in the first segment of the race, which was the swim at Beach 1 in Lake Mohawk. Athletes bicycled along a mostly flat running course in the second segment of the race, with some ups and downs through Sparta, Byram, and Andover - and with a grassy area for transition in between race segments.
The top three overall male winners were Brett Bagley, 31, of Sparta (55:22), Daniel Cangelosi, 21, of Rockaway (58:45), and Billy Hill, 20, of Morganville (1:02:55). The top three female overall winners were; Tracey Swenson, 56, of Park City, UT (1:09:57), Sarah Pisano, 29, of Sparta (1:10:58), and Susan Jankowitz, 64, of Sparta (1:11:13).
Individuals as well as relay teams who took part in the triathlon, which had two courses; sprint, or olympic, which is the longer course.
Race lenghths were:
Sprint
Swim - 1/4 mile or 400M.
Bike - 10.8 miles or 17.3K.
Run - 3.1 miles or 5K.
Olympic
Swim - 1 mile or 1500M.
Bike - 21.6 miles or 34.7K.
Run - 6.2 miles or 10K.
