Woman gets one year in prison

NEWTON. Cecilia Cuevas, 31, of Phillipsburg pleads guilty to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and other charges.

    Cecilia Cuevas, 31, of Phillipsburg was sentenced to one year in state prison when she appeared before Judge Michael Gaus in Superior Court in Sussex County on May 3.

    She pleaded guilty on March 8 to fourth-degree bail jumping, fourth-degree throwing bodily fluids and fourth-degree aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

    She admitted spitting on and attempting to cause bodily injury to a law enforcement officer by kicking and flailing her feet while she was being handcuffed.

    She also admitted to failing to appear for court on multiple occasions.

    Guilty of theft

    Armani Stewart, 24, of Westwood pleaded guilty to second-degree theft and third-degree resisting arrest by flight May 7.

    Sentencing is scheduled June 20.

    Stewart admitted stealing a motorcycle from a home and attempting to elude police on foot after being signaled to bring his vehicle to a full stop.
