Arne E. Goytil of Newton passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025. He was 82.

Arne was born in Brooklyn to the late Sigmund and Selma Goytil. The family then moved to the Marcella section of Rockaway.

After graduating from Morris Knolls High School, Arne attended Valpraiso University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business.

While attending Valpraiso, Arne met his future wife, Kay Lowenguth.

Immediately after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. After completion of his basic training in San Diego, Calif., he was stationed in Charleston, S.C., then in Spain.

After his service was completed, he moved his family back to Newton and eventually settled in Hampton Township.

Arne was employed as the assistant planning director for Morris County for 34 years before retiring in 2011.

He served on the Hampton Township Planning/Zoning Board for 41 years.

Arne enjoyed taking family vacations when his children were younger, and he had a fondness for indoor plants.

He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage.

Arne was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Kay; and his daughter-in-law, Mary.

He is survived by his brother, Glen; his sister, Linda; his sons, Christopher, Mark (Joyce) and Stephen (Jessie); his grandchildren, James, Ryan, Kaylee and Tanner; and his companion, Brenda Fox.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, April 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton. After the service, a burial will take place in Marcella Union Cemetery, Timberbrook Road, Rockaway.
