A car moves erratically down a dark highway at one in the morning. Lights flash. Siren whistles. A police officer steps out of the cruiser into the unknown. What can they expect when the car window rolls down?
In the midst of National Police Week, it is good to pause and think of the lives of our officers as they walk into unknown traumas, with the intent to enforce, protect and assist.
These brave intentions and actions certainly deserve our honor and respect. Local governing and policing are at the heart of our free society. What is done there is what touches our daily lives.
At the local level, we are governed and policed by our friends and neighbors, who experience the same problems and benefits of our area. In small towns like ours, that is especially true.
So, again, let us honor and support all our police officers as friends and heroes and thank them for the difficult training and execution of their job.
