Young men take the heat to help others
Byram - Tyler Davies and C.J. Ellis, 12, have become known as “Kids for Katrina.” These two boys from Byram knew of the devastation caused by hurricane and realized that no amount of help is too small. The boys decided to have a bake sale to aid the cause. Sam’s Club in Mount Olive allowed them to have the sale outside the store on Saturday, Sept. 24. The boys, with the help of some family members, did most of the baking. To promote their sale, the young volunteers made flyers and distributed them throughout the community. They also made phone calls soliciting contributions and even went door to door asking residents to donate. The sale was a success, raising a total of $400 on Saturday alone. The first things to go were C.J.’s brownies and Tyler’s cinnamon pastry sticks. The boys have not tallied their collection because there is still money coming in from promised donations. All the money raised will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
