Jan. 20 Douglas Slate, 36, of Wantage, was sentenced to five years probation and was given credit for 195 days time served. He must pay joint and several restitution in the amount of $2,380, submit to random urine monitoring, maintain gainful employment, attend outpatient drug counseling, pay total fines and penalties of $1,825 and submit a DNA sample at his expense. His driving privileges were suspended for six months. He pled guilty on Nov. 14, 2011 to burglary (two counts), forgery and possession of heroin, all crimes of the third degree, and to the fourth-degree crime of theft. In pleading guilty, Slate admitted that he and a co-defendant took two checks belonging to another, forged the victim's signature and cashed them, taking the cash for themselves. This incident occurred between Nov. 25 and Nov. 30, 2010 in Wantage Township. On April 24, 2011 Slate and two co-defendants illegally entered a residence in Branchville Borough and took property from the home. On April 27, 2011 Slate and two co-defendants illegally entered a residence in Fredon, again taking property from the home. The defendant was found to be in possession of heroin during questioning regarding this incident. Jan. 23 Arsenio M. Laboy, 35, of Mt. Arlington, was sentenced to one year probation. He must submit to a TASC evaluation, six months loss of driver license and various fines and penalties. Laboy admitted that on Sept. 10, 2011 he was in possession of narcotics when he was stopped for other motor vehicle violations. Anthony J. Colville, 32, of Montague, was sentenced to five years drug court probation, inpatient substance abuse treatment, $155 in fines and $1,165 in restitution. He pled guilty on Nov. 7, 2011 to the third-degree theft by deception. He admitted to inducing the victim to cash three bad checks totaling $925. Robert A. Wilson, 33, of Stanhope, pled guilty to the third-degree crime of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and a motor vehicle ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign. He admitted to possessing two bags of heroin in his pocket during the course of a motor vehicle stop by Hopatcong Police Officer J. Bianculli on Sept. 12, 2011. Justin S. Parsons, 20, of Port Jervis, N.Y., pled guilty to third-degree possession of cocaine. He admitted possessing cocaine during a motor vehicle stop. The incident was investigated by Patrolman Gregory Cugliari of the Franklin Police Department. Jesse Harvey, 24, of Hopatcong pled guilty to third-degree possession of heroin. Hopatcong Borough police responded to a call of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, they found him in possession of heroin and a hypodermic needle. David R. Sperling, 45, of Newton, pled guilty to two counts of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance and driving while suspended. He admitted to possessing 40 to 50 bags of heroin in his motor vehicle during the course of a motor vehicle stop by Byram Patrolman Daniel DeWald on Aug. 10, 2010. He also admitted to having 70 bags of heroin in his pocket on Nov. 19, 2011 in Sparta Township. That matter was investigated by Sparta Police Officer Marc Rubino. Jan. 26 A grand jury charged Joel P. Kurtz, 67, of Bethel, Conn., with two counts of third-degree perjury and two counts of fourth-degree false swearing. The case was investigated by Detective Dean Voris of the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office. The Indictment alleges that Kurtz provided false testimony under oath in connection with a civil trial in 2009, and before the New Jersey Dental Board. Jan. 27 Danielle Vitiello, 20, of Andover, was sentenced to four years probation and 60 days Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility. She pled guilty on Nov. 14, 2011, to aggravated assault, a third-degree crime.
