SUSSEX COUNTRY PROSECUTOR
May 9 Charles Caracappa, 24, of Edison, was arrested on charges of attempted endangering the welfare of a child and distribution of obscene material to a minor, both third-degree crimes. Caracappa was arrested without incident. The arrest came about as a result of a bi-county operation conducted by the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes and Technology Unit under the direction of Chief Charles Catalano and members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Task Force, under the direction of Chief Steven Cucciniello. The arrest stemmed from an investigation in which it is alleged that Caracappa engaged in sexually explicit conversations via the Internet, specifically chat and instant messaging, with what he believed to be were 13- and 14-year-old girls. It is also alleged that he sent pictures of his genitalia to the purported minors. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Edison Police Department assisted with the arrest. Robert J. Slater, 30, of Ogdensburg, pled guilty to the third-degree crimes of defrauding a drug test and possession of a controlled dangerous substance and the disorderly persons offense of possession of drug paraphernalia. He admitted to using a wiz-a-nator to defraud a drug test administered as a condition of release by giving a sample of urine that was not his to the Sussex County Probation Department on March 21, 2011. The matter was investigated by Sussex County Sheriff’s Officer John Swords. He also admitted to possessing approximately eight bags of crack cocaine and one bag of heroin during the course of a motor vehicle stop on Jan. 2, 2011 by Sparta Police Officer D. Pridham. He also admitted to possessing a crack pipe on March 5, 2011 when he was arrested on an outstanding warrant by New Jersey State Trooper S. Kuhn. May 13 Julie Michaels, 39, of Wayne, was sentenced to a total of 18 years State Prison and will be required to serve approximately 12 years and two months before becoming eligible for parole. Michaels lost her driving privileges for life and must pay $4,055 in fines and penalties. On March 3, 2008, while intoxicated and having a suspended license, Julie Michaels did recklessly drive her vehicle causing the death of Dylan Vecchiarelli and serious bodily injury to Danilo Diaz. Ana Philback, 40 of Hamburg, was sentenced to three years probation, 100 hours of community service, and had her driver’s license revoked for 90 days. Patrick Williams, 52, of Newton was sentenced to four years State Prison, 32 days jail credit, $685.95 in restitution to the victim and $155 in fines and penalties. On Dec. 11, 2010 Williams and his co-defendant illegally entered an apartment in Newton and stole copper wiring, copper tubing and electrical equipment. Joseph W. Mauriello, 24, of Wantage, was sentenced to two years probation, restitution in the amount of $3,000 to the victims, loss of his driver license for one year and $155in fines and penalties. Mauriello admitted to permitting his co-defendants to store and work on a stolen ATV in his garage in Wantage on September 12, 2010. John T. Collins Jr., 49, of Sussex, was sentenced to three years probation and he must pay restitution and court costs and fines. He pled guilty on March 21, 2011, to two counts of third-degree Uttering. He admitted to taking checks belonging to his parents and cashing them, totaling $1,650. May 16 Michael Hadowanetz, 20, of Hamburg, pled guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance, a third-degree crime, and possession of paraphernalia a disorderly persons offense. Kevin D. Lauritzen, 20, of Montgomery, N.Y., pled guilty to four counts of burglary, all third-degree crimes. Lauritzen admitted that on Jan. 18, 2011, in the township of Vernon he and Andrew Pacini entered several vehicles with the purpose to commit an offense therein. Gregory Deo Jr., of Lyndhurst, pled guilty to eight counts of third degree forgery. He admitted to using counterfeit money to make purchases at the Elias Cole Restaurant, Family Pizza, Sussex Queen Diner, Clove Brook Deli, Holland American Bakery, Just Desserts, Iron Deli and Hot Bagels. Anthony D. Bellina, 25, of Lake Hopatcong was sentenced to four years drug court probation, 180 days county jail, $280 in fines, 10 days of community service and $1,968.97 in restitution. He pled guilty on March 14, 2011 to two counts of third-degree shoplifting. In pleading guilty, Bellina admitted that he and a co-defendant took numerous items from Wal-Mart in Hampton Township on Feb. 1, 2011 without paying for them and on Feb. 17, 2011, went back to Wal-Mart but were apprehended before they could leave the store with the merchandise in their shopping carts. Erika M. Carr, 22, of Pennsauken, pled guilty to the third-degree crime of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance. She admitted to giving a bag of heroin to a patient at the Sunrise House on June 3, 2010. Erik Reider, 24, of Wantage, pled guilty to third-degree crimes of unlawful possession of a handgun, terroristic threats and attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud. He admitted that on Sept. 27, 2009, he possessed a pellet handgun in Newton without having obtained a purchasers card or carry permit. The matter was investigated by Andover Police Officer Stephen Murrell. He admitted to trying to fill a prescription for which he had changed the number of dosage units for methadone in Wantage on July 19, 2010. That matter was investigated New Jersey State Trooper S. Kuhn. He also admitted to threatening to kill another person while armed with a knife on March 3, 2011 in Wantage. That matter was investigated by Trooper M. Iglesias.
