Clare Schwartz of Kittatinny Regional High School competed in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Meet of Champions early this month along with hundreds of swimmers from more than 100 different teams.
Three boys and two girls from Sussex County were individual qualifiers in the two-day event held at Gloucester County Technical Institute in Sewell.
Prelims were Saturday, March 4, and the top 16 in each event returned Sunday, March 5 for the finals.
Schwartz started with her 200-meter individual medley in prelims, narrowly missing her personal best by 0.12 of a second and finishing 25th.
She stepped up for her 100-meter freestyle and dropped 0.69 seconds for a personal best and a school record while finishing in eighth place with a spot in finals. On Sunday, she edged out the next fastest girl to finish seventh overall.
