Local gymnasts to compete in nationals
FRANKLIN — Westys Gymnastics competitive USAIGC team has finished up their qualifying season last weekend and begun their post-season big events. The girls went to Wildwood NJ on Memorial Day weekend to compete against gymnasts from across the tri-state area of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. They will fly out to Orlando, Florida at the end of June to compete in the National USAIGC World Championship. This competition will have over sixteen hundred gymnasts competing from all across the world.
Team Westys has been achieving great scores all season long and continues to have their gymnasts place in the top three all around winners of their age divisions.
Westys Team Members Lexi Ingoglia, 10, of Lake Hopatcong, and Chelsea Smith, 9, of Hardyston both scored their highest score of the season thus far on Balance Beam. Lexi earning a 9.4 and Chelsea earning a 9.1. Team members Molly Compa, 8, of Sparta, Moya Lynch, 10, of Wantage, and Rachael McKenna, 9, of Wantage, all scored their best score thus far on Uneven Bars. Molly receiving a 9.3, Moya receiving a 9.5, and Rachael receiving a 9.25. Elizabeth Byra, 11, of Hardyston, Sabrina Dispenziere, 12, of Sanyston, and Hailey Jenkins, 7, of Lafayette accomplished their highest scores so far on Floor Exercise. Elizabeth with a 9.0, Sabrina with 9.15, and Hailey also with a 9.15. Team Westys members, Samie Copley, 11, of Vernon, Hanna Garofano, 10, of Ogdensburg, and Olivia Fisher, 9, of Hardyston all scored their best score thus far on Vault. Samie earning a 9.15, Hanna earning a 9.1, and Olivia earning a 9.4. And Team Westys Member Adrianna Barone, 12, of Hardyston, received her highest score of the season thus far on not just one, but two different events, earning herself a 9.2 on both Vault and Uneven Bars.
The Westys Team coaches are so proud of what these girls have accomplished this season, they work hard together and set goals both individually and as a team. Everyone on Team Westys cannot wait to see these gymnasts finish up the season with some great routines at the Nationals.
