NEWTON — High Point Regional High School defeated Newton High School in varsity softball on Thursday, May 4. The final score was 2-1. The game took place at Memory Park in Newton. Brooke Wannemacher pitched a five-hitter with three walks and five strikeouts for High Point. High Point scored both of its runs in the top of the first inning. Kelsey Little went 2-for-4 with a run, while Casey Rutter went 2-for-3 with a run. Jordyn Martin went 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Cassady Bruning went 1-for-3. Kate Kiefer went 1-for-4 for High Point. Team records: High Point Wildcats 6-8. Newton Braves 8-5.
