Lions, Spartans share Festival crown Pope John and Sparta tied for the team crown in the 2005 SCIL Girls' Tennis Festival contested in Sparta on Friday and Saturday. Each team accumulated 10 points while Lenape Valley finished third with seven points. Pope John's Joy Johnson defeated LVR's Krissy Paich 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 to win the No. 1 singles tourney. Her teammate Kerry McKinley triumphed in the second singles bracket when she went three sets to upend top-seeded Marissa Tanner of Lenape Valley 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 6-1. Sparta's Trisha Ashmore claimed the No. 3 singles title with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Pope John's Katy Mabunay in the final.
