Ash, Bosmann race to gold in Ridgewood 5K Run

Hewitt's William Ash and Bill Bosmann of Sparta turned in gold medal performances in the 2004 Ridgewood 5K Run on Memorial Day. The 53-year old Bosman paced a pack of 13 local runners across the line, finishing 44th overall in a field of 1036 competitors who finished the 3.1-mile course. He was clocked in 18:56. Oak Ridge's 27-year old Sarah Papke was the first local woman to complete the course, placing 12th out of 431 females with a time of 20:28. She was runnerup among the 25 to 29-year old women, turning in a clocking of 20 minutes, 28 seconds. Ash was fastest to the finish among the 60 to 64-year old males, as the 61-year old posted a time of 21:33. In the Ridgewood 10K Run, the endurable Bosman led a pack of 15 local residents to the finish, crossing the line 28th in the field of 775 participants who completed the 6.2-mile course. Bosmann was clocked in 37:37 as he picked up the first place award in the 50 to 50-year old age bracket. Vernon's Beth Carabello was the first local distaff runner to finish, placing 52nd out of the 229 females in the event. The 33-year old was clocked in 47:54. Andover's 70-year old Ben Schwartz was runnerup in the men's 70 & older category, turning in a time of 57:03.
