BYRAM. The crash took place in the early morning of June 12 and involved multiple injuries.

The Byram Township Police Department recently released the details of a motor vehicle crash. On June 12, at around 2:22 a.m. the Byram PD responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Roseville Road near Amity Road, in Byram. When officers arrived, they discovered two people involved in the crash, one of which had facial injuries. However, they soon determined that others were involved in the crash but the vehicle, the driver and the other passengers could not be located, according to Byram PD. It was then determined that the crash took place on the property of 84 Roseville Road and during a check of the property, the involved vehicle, which police described as having heavy damage to it, was located.
The officers continued to search for the driver and other passengers to determine whether they were injured. The Byram Township Fire Department, Sussex County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and the NJSP NorthSTAR Air Medical Helicopter responded to the scene to help search the property, which includes a lake, for any injured occupants of the vehicle. Sparta EMS also arrived to treat one of the passengers, and Atlantic EMS responded to stand by in case any other injured occupants were found.
In its announcement, the police said they later found the driver, Michael J. McGhee, 19, of Oceanport, N.J., and the two other occupants of the vehicle, inside the residence at 84 Roseville Road. One of the passengers reportedly had a head injury. McGhee was placed under arrest, processed, and released.
McGhee was charged with the following violations: two counts of “assault by auto” in the fourth degree, possession of a false government document in the fourth degree, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, failure to report a motor vehicle accident, failure to produce a valid insurance card, a probationary driver’s license violation for having too many passengers, and a probationary driver’s license violation for driving after hours.
A mandatory Sussex County Superior Court date is pending.
