Newton Police Department On Tuesday Jan. 17 the Newton Police Department received a call from the Busy Bee Gas Station, at 86 Mill Street, about a robbery. Officers arrived and met with the victim who works as an attendant at the gas station. The victim stated that he was attending to a customer he was attacked from behind by an unknown subject. A brief struggle ensued and the victim was able to break free from the subject, but was then attacked by another subject. Both subjects then physically restrained the victim and attempted to steal money from him. However, the victim was able free himself and run into the store where he called the police. The subjects then fled the scene. The victim was unharmed as a result of the incident. After an investigation the subjects were identified as Eddie G. Morales, 20, and Alex F. Straway, 19, both of Newton. On Jan. 18 both suspects were apprehended without incident. Both face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and criminal attempt to commit robbery. BYRAM TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT On Jan. 5 the Byram Township Police Department received a call about a woman giving birth in a car on Waterloo Rd. Officers Marin, DeWald and Moreland responded and found that the baby was crowning. The baby was then delivered and the officers used suction to clear out the baby's mouth. They also clamped and cut the umbilical cord. The mother and baby were escorted to Hackettstown Regional Medical Center by one of the officers. This is the second time in the last three years that Byram Township officers have helped deliver a baby.
