The Nutrition Store now open in Newton

NEWTON — Six months ago, Jerry Katzenstein was driving though town when he noticed a for rent sign in a space behind Sleepy's and next to Chuck's Car Wash on Route 206. He and his wife/business partner, Diana, had been talking about opening a third location for The Nutrition Store in Newton. And the sign, plus the fact that the space would accommodate their nutrition supplement, smoothie and freshly prepared food and juice items, helped them make the decision. The Newton Nutrition Store is slated to have its grand opening on Dec. 5 and a soft opening leading in.

Nutrition is a big part of Katzenstein's life now. Ten years ago, however, he'd let himself slip. “I just let myself go eating too much,” he said. Enough was enough, and after getting back on track with his own diet and exercise and losing 100 pounds, he decided to open The Nutrition Store in Franklin in 2009.

The store started as an outlet for health and nutrition products, including a wide variety of vitamins and health supplements. Business quickly boomed, and they began selling smoothies. They were an overnight sensation, which led the owners to offer freshly prepared, healthy food and juice items.

Locally sourced chicken, steak and produce make up the food menu with the underlying focus remaining on health and nutrition. Things went so well, that in 2015, the Katzensteins, who live in Hamburg, opened a second store in Sparta. And now they felt the time was right to open another store in the county seat.

“Nutrition is so important,” Katzenstein said, “When I let myself go, which is easy for people to do, I realized I had to do something; and, that it's easier to not do something than to get going.”

Though The Nutrition Store's items are available quickly, they're far from fast food. But a new component will be added. “This store will be a little different as we'll offer deliver to accommodate all of Newtons businesses,” Katzenstein said.
