NEWTON – On Saturday, February 20, 10 local high school seniors were introduced at a brunch as this year’s Pass It Along Scholar Athlete ceremony, nominated by their school principals and athletic directors, and representing leadership through academics, athletics, and above all, service and community commitment.
The brunch was sponsored by Sussex County Community College and Ronetco Supermarkets, and held at the college’s Performing Arts Center atrium.
The Scholar Athlete Program is a Sussex County tradition, now in its 31st year. The program brings the community together to celebrate the academic, athletic and community service accomplishments of local high school students. Pass It Along inherited this year’s program ,formerly hosted by United Way of Northern New Jersey. The Orthopedic Institute of New Jersey is this year’s presenting sponsor.
The Scholar Athletes will be honored and awarded scholarships at an awards banquet set for the evening of April 7, at Perona Farms in Andover, where several hundred members of their families, friends, sponsors, school representatives, and the community will be in attendance.
This celebrated program is funded through sponsorship, advertisements, and banquet tickets. Area businesses, schools, family, and friends can showcase their support of these young rising stars and the Sussex County community by signing on as a sponsor, purchasing ad space, and/or attending the banquet. Contributions will continue to support local teens and the success of our Sussex County communities.
Pass It Along is committed to supporting education initiatives that prepare youth for a successful future and lead to the long-term health of our communities. Pass It Along works to build confident, resilient, and compassionate teenagers through self-discovery, volunteerism, and leadership. The Scholar Athlete program advances this mission by honoring student leaders for serving as role models in their schools and throughout the Sussex County community.
