Retired staffers visit school
GREENDELL. About 20 former staff members tour Green Hills School after a welcome by the superintendent.
About 20 former staff members gathered Tuesday, Aug. 29 for a tour of Green Hills School.
Some of them had not been back in more than 30 years.
They were welcomed by Superintendent Jennifer Cenatiempo; Principal Jon Bollette; Marie Bilik, president of the Board of Education; and Sue Miller, co-president of the Green Township Education Association.
The retirees were impressed by the extensive expansion of the building, the emphasis on literacy, and the growth in programs and curriculum, including courses in robotics, performing arts and video gaming.
They also were pleased by the focus on school security.
“The improvements in security allow teachers to teach while safety is left to those trained to do so,” Cenatiempo said.
Ruth Gommoll, a retired second-grade teacher, remembered how schools used to be “wide open” all day.
After the tour, the guests were treated to a lunch catered by Chris Bilik and his staff at the Tranquility Store.
