RoNetco Supermarkets, Inc., operators of ShopRite supermarkets in Sussex, Morris, and Warren counties, announced the scholarship winners for the 2019-2020 academic school year. Committed to continuing education, RoNetco provides $22,000 in scholarships every year to associates and children and grandchildren of associates from the seven ShopRite supermarkets and their corporate office. Employing over 1,600 people, RoNetco is dedicated to providing opportunities for associates to pursue a post high school education by not only offering scholarships, but by encouraging staff members to take advantage of their generous tuition reimbursement program and discounted tuition with participating colleges and universities.
Offering opportunities for students to learn and earn while working at RoNetco is demonstrated through the Summer Internship Program for rising college juniors and seniors, as well as workshops, seminars, and an in-house development program that helps to instill and cultivate competencies and leadership skills.
RoNetco currently owns seven ShopRite locations in Netcong, Byram, Flanders, Newton, Mansfield, Succasunna, and Franklin. ShopRite of Sparta will be their eighth location, opening fall 2019, and will enhance their associate’s opportunities for growth, development, and advancement within the company.
Local recipients of the RoNetco scholarships are as follows:
• Timothy Forst, resident of Hopatcong, received the Thomas & Vincenia Romano Scholarship ($2,500, named after RoNetco’s founders). Timothy is currently a graduating senior at Hopatcong High School. In the fall, he is looking forward to attending Rochester Institute of Technology, where he will be studying Environmental Science. In the future, he hopes to become a field biologist. Throughout high school, Timothy has been enrolled in many advanced placement and dual-enrollment courses, was named the president of Hopatcong high school's chapter of the National Honor Society, and has earned the position of Salutatorian of his class. In addition to his academic achievements, Timothy works part-time as a cashier and trainer at the ShopRite of Succasunna. In his free time, Timothy enjoys hiking with his dog.
• Olivia Hofer, resident of Andover and student at the University of Pittsburgh
Olivia Hofer is currently a senior at Lenape Valley Regional High School. In the fall, she is headed to the University of Pittsburgh, where she plans to study Biology. In the future, she hopes to become a practicing physician’s assistant. Throughout her high school career, Olivia has maintained a 4.3 GPA, taking numerous advanced placement courses. Olivia is involved in her school’s student council and serves as an officer to the National Honor Society. She has also donated her time to her local dog shelter and community food bank. In addition, she works part-time at the ShopRite of Byram. In her free time, Olivia enjoys the outdoors and all things science.
