ANDOVER — People came from as far as Illinois and Arizona last Friday night to watch Eric Danielson take the oath of office as Chief of Police for Andover Township.
Requested by Danielson’s wife Debbie, a special meeting was called by the committee so that family and friends could share in the ceremony and celebrate Danielson’s accomplishment.
After being sworn in by Mayor Mike Lensak with his wife and two sons at his side, Danielson thanked the committee and his predecessor Gil Taglialatela for a seamless transition as he took the stage for some heartfelt remarks.
“I also want to thank Lakeland Emergency Squad, Andover Township Fire Department, and of course, the police officers standing behind me,” said Danielson. “You are my brothers and sisters, and I am grateful for all of your hard work.”
In addition to many Andover residents, police and firefighters from neighboring towns were in attendance.
Mayor Joe Martz, of Chatham Boro, came to Andover and made a few comments.
“I have know the Danielson family for 40 years, they are folks of integrity,” said Martz.
Danielson’s father Skip, retired Chief of Police of Byram, presented his son with a customized license plate with the title Chief.
Committee member Tom Walsh praised Danielson for his work in the role of Office of Emergency Management.
"I have worked with him over 11 years in many emergency situations. He does an unbelievable job. He is phenomenal. And it's a testament to him that all these people showed up here tonight. It shows that he is truly appreciated."
