Miss Byram contest slated

BYRAM TOWNSHIP — Byram Township will hold the 2016 “Miss/Mr. Byram/Royalty Court Contest,” on Thursday, May 26, 6:30 p.m. at The Tamaracks Country Villa, 85 Tamarack Road in Byram. A rehearsal will take place at the venue on Tuesday, May 24 at 7 p.m.
The “Royalty Court Contest” includes four age bracket categories, all with ages as of August 1, 2016:
• Miss Byram/Mr. Byram: Byram residents ages 17 to 21 years.
• Junior Miss Byram/Junior Mister Byram: Byram residents ages 13 to 16 years.
• Young Miss Byram/Young Mister Byram: Byram residents ages 8 to 12 years.
• Little Miss/Mr. Byram: Byram residents ages 4 to 7 years.
Selection criteria for the two older groups include community involvement, academic achievement, accomplishments, communication skills, poise and confidence. For the two younger groups, emphasis is on communication skills, poise and confidence. Dress is formal or semi-formal evening attire for the older groups, and “dress up” (no jeans) for the younger contestants. Casual dress (e.g. jeans) is acceptable for rehearsal.
Each of the winners will receive various prizes and be honored at Byram Day 2016. In addition, Miss Byram, Junior Miss Byram, Young Miss Byram and Little Miss/Mr. Byram are invited to represent their community at the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show this summer, where additional prizes are available. In addition, Miss Byram is invited to ride in the show’s opening day parade on Friday, August 5, and compete in the show’s “2016 Queen of the Fair” contest on Saturday evening, August 6.
Applications for the 2016 Byram Royalty Court contest are available at www.byramtwp.org (click “Community” then “Recreation Events”) and at the Byram Municipal Building from 9 a.m to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
