BYRAM TOWNSHIP — Michelle Wolters, an upcoming senior at Lenape Valley Regional High School, has been crowned “Miss Byram 2017.” The 17-year-old winner will represent Byram at the Queen of the Fair contest at the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show in August, as well as at several other high-profile events.
Michelle demonstrated impressive confidence, communication skills and poise as the audience learned of her tremendous list of accomplishments, and she answered several questions.
Michelle is a member of the National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, Interact, and DECA, where she was selected as a state finalist for finance in her freshman year. She has been named Scholar Athlete for each of her three sports ― soccer, swimming and track ― and has a varsity letter in each. Michelle was named NJAC 2nd Team All Conference for soccer, NJAC Honorable Mention All Conference for swimming and NJAC 2nd Team All Conference for track. She was the captain of the swim team in her junior year and next year hopes to serve as Sports Editor for the school yearbook.
In addition to sports, Michelle’s hobbies include working with children at her church, and with animals. She has been active in Girl Scouts since kindergarten and currently is working on her Gold Award, the most prestigious and most difficult Girl Scout Award to achieve. She received her Silver Award for volunteering with Operation Paperback for soldiers and their families worldwide, and the Bronze Award volunteering for BARKS. Michelle is a member of the Andover Presbyterian Church and regularly helps in the Sunday school program.
Juliana Kropinack, nine years old, was named Young Miss Byram 2017. She loves to dance: She placed third overall and received a High Gold for her lyrical dance solo.
In the ages four to seven category, Gabriella Boucher was named Little Miss Byram 2017. Gabriella enjoys dancing and gymnastics, and has been featured in three magazines: Model Society, Lisa B. Collection and Wanderlust Fashion Magazine.
In that same category, Julian Shamy won the title of Little Mister Byram 2017. Julian’s hobbies include reading, drawing, fishing, and playing Skylanders. He also enjoys gymnastics.
Following a brief introduction, each contestant faced a crowded room and answered several thought-provoking questions. All demonstrated strength and poise under pressure. Judges faced a tough choice from among the outstanding Byram Township youths competing for the various royalty titles.
