The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Sussex County (UUFSC) has hired a new minister: the Rev. Doak Mansfield.

Mansfield formerly was associated with the Heritage Unitarian Universalist Church of Cincinnati, Ohio.

He replaces the Rev. Mary Tiebout, who retired.

Mansfield will begin conducting services in March.

He has been a Unitarian minister in Florida, Washington, North Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama and Ohio. He also spent nine years as chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a chaplain at Bethesda Hospitals in Cincinnati.

Ready to resume his ministry after the death of his wife in 2020, Mansfield had job offers from UU churches across the United States. He selected the UUFSC.

“We are very fortunate to have Doak Mansfield join us,” said UUFSC president Barbara Kelly. “He is not only a minister but also a spell-binding storyteller certain to enrich the lives of our members.”

In addition to his ministerial work, Mansfield is the author of three books: two works of fiction and a non-fiction book titled “An Irreverent Guide to Spirituality.”

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion dedicated to the human search for meaning and to justice and peace. UUs welcome people of all religious backgrounds, races and gender orientations.
