NEWTON — Glenn Sherman, MD, FACOG, chose Obstetrics and Gynecology because he cared about women's health. The field offered him the opportunity to deliver babies, perform surgery, provide primary care and provide thorough counseling to his patients on all facets of women's health care.
He's celebrating 15 years at his location in the Norman Silbert Medical Arts Building at 222 High Street in Newton; across from the Newton Medical Center.
“People are very kind in Sussex County, and my patients are very loyal,” he said. “It's been a pleasure to serve this area for 15 years, and I look forward to many more.”
Over the years, Dr. Sherman said the job has been different every day.
“Some days we've seen pregnant women, some days adolescents, some days grandmothers. I see patients from their early teens until their late 80s. Each patient is someone different and I make sure we address their individual concerns and needs.”
A few years ago, Sherman transitioned out of obstetrics to focusing solely on gynecology. He has extensive experience serving private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, self-pay and managed care patients. He has worked for hospitals, as an employee of both single specialty and multi-specialty groups and now enjoys being self employed where he keeps it very one-on-one with his patients. He provides his cell number to all patients.
“I've worked in all kinds of settings, and I feel this experience led me to the type of practice I have created,” he said. “My practice thrives largely because there is one doctor, one medical assistant and one patient. I really enjoy the patient visits and working with my patients for their optimal healthcare.”
He graduated from Drew University in Madison, NJ. He then achieved an MD degree from Albany Medical College, where he was in the top 10% of his graduating class. He completed his Residency in Ob/Gyn at The Jersey City Medical Center; where he went on to be the Chief Resident. He also earned the prestigious honor of Valedictorian of the Housestaff.
He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
In addition to serving his patients in Sussex County, Dr. Sherman is the Medical Director of Family Planning Plus of Northern Pennsylvania and is a Physician Adviser for United Health Group/Optum. Though his main office is in Newton, he has satellite offices in West Orange and Linden.
As Dr. Sherman celebrates 15 years, he looks forward to many more serving the Sussex County Community.
“I pride myself on seeing a patient the same day if they call with a concern,” Dr. Sherman said. “My patients are people, they aren't a number as, sadly, they are considered with some of the larger practices. Listening is of huge importance as is always getting test results back for them as quickly as possible and explaining healthcare plans and procedures thoroughly.”
Patients are usually seen as soon as possible. You can make an appointment by calling 973-300-3200 and asking for Debbie. You may also visit his web site at www.newtonobgyn.com; where you can also make an appointment. Most insurances are accepted, and arrangement can be made for self pay patients.
