It's always summer at Hollywood Tans

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP — Despite the negative talk about tanning, Hollywood Tans in Andover Township is doing better than ever and recently moved to a bigger space a few doors over at 227 Newton Sparta Road.
The Andover location is the second one in Sussex County owned by franchisees Lisa Kee and Brigette Bosma. The two business partners were childhood friends from Vernon who ventured out six years ago opening their first Hollywood Tans in Hamburg.
According to Kee, there is less competition today and Hollywood Tans offers competitive pricing and promotions. And the key to a successful business is education.
“All of our employees are Smart Tan certified trained in asking the right questions and recommending the right service,” said Kee. “Each client is individual and will tan differently due to skin tone. The first question our employees ask is do you tan outside?”
Smart Tan is the ‘advocate‘ and educator for the tanning industry that is already heavily regulated by the government. These are rules Hollywood Tans strictly adheres to.
“The bulbs are regulated. You cannot tan more than once a day and you must be 18 years and older or 17 with parental consent,” explains Kee. ”It is very regulated and safe if you follow the rules, and the machines actually let in less harmful rays and provide vitamin D.”
The technology has changed over the years. In addition to lay down beds, there are stand-up booths. And over the past 10 years there is the advent of the spray tan. Spray tans last about five to seven days; the UV tan can gradually build up similar to a natural tan
People prefer different methods for different reasons. And again individual pigmentation plays a big role.
“The stand-up is cleaner, more efficient and more even while the lay down is relaxing and comfortable,” said Kee. “Some clients don’t like the idea of UV rays so they go with the Mystic spray tan.”
State of the art equipment such as the new Vitesse, a high-pressured booth, gives out a Caribbean glow in 7 minutes or less, making Hollywood Tans unique.
Teeth-whitening is also offered here at a special price of $69. Bleach Bright is the teeth -whitening system used by Hollywood Tans where clients apply a gel and sit under a light to get pearly whites to which Kee said the results are amazing.
Packages, memberships and weekly deals make the decision to go tanning easier. There are seasonal tanners, event tanners, medical reason tanners and Vitamin D tanners. In the end it makes people feel good.
Safe tanning in a clean and pleasant environment is the end game. Consultations are recommended and all appointments are on a walk-in basis.
“Everyone who walks in loves it," Kee said. "Everything in moderation and slow and steady and you are getting Vitamin D.”
