By Laurie Gordon
Lynn Cohen, owner of Interplay Couture has created an innovative fundraising concept where women gather to get styled by an expert and shop for fashion in numerous genres and sizes all in the context of spreading the love by raising money for their favorite charity.
“Groups of women as few as 10 and up to as many as our 4,000 square foot space can accommodate come in for an evening or an afternoon of fashion and fun,” Cohen said. “We provide the appetizers and beverages and they enjoy shopping, seeing different trends and looks and socializing.”
The ambiance is a combination of art meets fashion and the backdrop is eclectic. Cohen has morphed vogue with a casual vibe where women can browse the various color appropriated sections of the store and stylists are on hand if they would like advice.
“It's not your typical fundraising dinner or tricky tray,” Cohen said. “It's about enjoying the aura, the music, the clothes, the styles and each other.”
Women have gathered at Interplay Couture to raise money for causes including Karen Ann Quinlan, DASI, Father John's Animal Rescue, Red Shoe, Life with Joy, school fundraisers and many others.
“A group need just call to arrange a shopping party and the percentage of what is sold at the event, based on the number of participants, is donated to the charity of their choice,” Cohen said.
Interplay's prices start at $19.99 and run a full range and the clothing is unique.
“We used to do fashion for celebrities, but now all of the clientele we serve are celebs to us," Cohen said. "Rather than shopping for an occasion, life is the occasion. Women can look good whenever they go out. It's not superfluous that the image you project is important. Looking good means you feel good and when you feel good, your self-confidence blossoms.”
In addition to fashion parties, Interplay Couture donates clothing to local charities including Dress for Success of Northern New Jersey.
“It's an exceptionally important cause that provides clothing to help inspire women who have been down on their luck to take charge of their lives,” Cohen said. “I'm proud to be a supporter.”
Interplay Couture has clothing from sizes 0 through 3X as well as a plethora of accessories to bring out the fashionista in every woman.
“We are about much more than simply a new outfit,” Cohen said. “Besides physically providing fashion-forward apparel and accessories, we impart our clients with a confidence that she carries forward into every aspect of her life.”
