Honoring the memory
NEWTON — The annual Remembrance Ceremony, marking the 11th anniversary of the 9/11/2201 attacks on the World Trade Center was held Sunday on the Connor Green next to the 9/11 memorial at Sussex County Community College.
The ceremony featured Boy and Girl Scout Troops leading the Pledge of Allegiance; area singers and bagpipe players; and keynote speaker WABC-TV correspondent N.J. Burkett.
Burkett has won numerous awards for his coverage during and in the days after 9/11.
The ceremony included Riderless Horse to honor police and firefighters who fell in the line of duty that day, and the soldiers who have fallen since 9/11 in the global war on terror.
The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is an annual event organized at SCCC by the Sussex County September 11th Memorial Committee, chaired by Glen Vetrano, former Freeholder Director and retired Battalion Chief from the Paterson Fire Department, and Chief Michael Richards from the Newton Police Department and Past President, Sussex County PBA Local #138.
