Hilltop students write good wishes to one another on their Chinese paper dragon
SPARTA — Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. The Chinese year 4711 began on Feb. 10.
It is the year of The Snake. Ancient Chinese wisdom says a snake in the house is a good omen because it means your family won’t starve.
Hilltop’s fourth graders celebrated Chinese New Year by preparing a classroom feast. They cooked Chinese and had fun all day.
To share the celebration with the rest of the school, the children made a giant paper snake, which they displayed in the hallway and invited all the students and staff to write their best wishes for the New Year.
