GREEN TWP. State Assemblyman Michael Inganamort presents a joint proclamation from the New Jersey Senate and Assembly to Mayor Peg Phillips.
Green Township marked its bicentennial during the annual Green Township Day festivities June 1.
State Assemblyman Michael Inganamort, R-24, presented a joint proclamation from the New Jersey Senate and Assembly to Mayor Peg Phillips.
Also present were Sussex County Commissioner Earl Schick and Township Committeeman Mike Rose.
The township celebration will continue with a Bicentennial Bash Pig Roast from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at Tranquillity Farms, 47 Decker Pond Road.
A Bicentennial Gala is planned Saturday, Dec. 7 at Crossed Keys Estate, 289 Pequest Road.
Green Township was founded Dec. 27, 1824.
In November 1823, the southern portion of Sussex County became a separate county known as Warren County. The northern portions of Hardwick and Independence Township, which remained in Sussex County, became Green Township.
The township was named for Ephraim Green, who settled near Greendell in 1770. Many sections of Green retain their identity as Tranquility, Huntsville, Greendell and Yellow Frame.
”Green Township is among the most beautiful and tranquil communities in New Jersey,” Inganamort said. “It is an honor to not only recognize Green Township’s bicentennial but also to work with Green Township’s governing body and many volunteers to ensure its next 200 years are just as prosperous.”
