Lafayette Day will be held on Saturday June 8. The event, which was started six years ago to showcase all that the town has to offer, will feature a 60s this year. New this year, at 5 pm, The Shoppes at Lafayette will get involved with a Lafayettestock.
“Lafayette Day is held at the Lafayette Park on Route 15,” said Stephanie Pizzulo from the township. “This year, with the 60s them, we will have a costume contest with prizes for all ages. Dress in your tye-dye, bell bottoms or mini-skirt and go-go boots to add to the fun.”
There will be bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, pony rides, live band, DJ playing favorite 60s tunes, games food and face painting.
“We have a craft beer and adult lemonaide tent featuring Angry Erik's beer and adult lemonade by Milk Street Distillery,” Pizzulo said. “Our Miss Lafayette contest will take place at 12 noon, and there will be lots of vendors. We have a touch-a truck sponsored by JCP&L”
Pizzulo, Susanne Van Sickle and Deborah Johnson help to organize the event, and the planning starts in January.
“Susanne, Deborah and I start the brainstorming and it takes off from there,” Pizzulo said. “A lot of work goes into the day and I could not do it without their help.”
At the close of Lafayette Day, things will move to The Shoppes at Lafayette for Lafayettestock, a Woodstock type concert.
“We are very excited the Shoppes at Lafayette are joining in the festivities,” Pizzulo said. “This will be the perfect ending to our tribute to the 60's. The Day is about featuring all that Lafayette has to offer, and The Shoppes at Lafayette are a big part of our town. We enjoy working with them.'
“We're excited to be part of Lafayette Day this year,” said Patti Singer, the manager of The Shoppes at Lafayette. “The band that will be playing at our Lafayettestock at 5 will be The Cast Iron Blues Band. That weekend (7th-9th) we will also have The Sussex County Art Society in the Village Hall for an art show and sale. The show is called Fabulous Fakes where local artists will display their artwork. The artists are to paint a painting of their favorite famous piece of art, therefore the 'fake' aspect.
The entire day will features fun entertainment for the whole family. Come dressed in groovy attire or as your favorite representation of the 60's and enter the costume contest and win a prize. Live bands will be playing throughout the day. Rain Date is Sunday, June 9.
