Girls World Expo meets teen interests

— More than 600 teenage girls from surrounding states are expected to flock to the Skylands Convention Center this Sunday afternoon for Straus News' 2015 Girls World Expo.

At this one-day event, coming to the tristate region for the fourth time, girls ages 11 to 18 have fun while providing inspiration that runs counter to the negative images teens are exposed to today.

Seminars include "I Wish I Was Confident When I Meet People," a panel on organic living, another empowering girls to be "Free to Be Me," and another on handling adversity. During the popular "Questions You Can't Ask Your Mom" seminar, teens submit questions anonymously — and no moms are allowed in the room.

In "What Are Boys Really Thinking?," a panel of boys field questions and give straight answers. Other highlights include a roller derby, a selfie booth and pamper me lounge, a fashion show, demonstrations of the martial arts, aerial yoga, and robotics, and much more.

Girls World Expo runs from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Skylands Convention Center, 94 Championship Place, Augusta, N.J.

Admission is $10 at the door. Those who register ahead of time at girlsworldexpo.com gain admission for free courtesy of Suburban Propane.

Other Girls World Expo sponsors include: Green Valley Farms, Subaru World of Newton, Visions Federal Credit Union, D'Andrea Jewelers, J. Alexander's Fine Jewelers, Highlands State Bank, Thor Labs, Braen Stone, Salon Serendipity, and Tony's Flooring.
