Ginnie’s House Children’s Advocacy Center has received a $5,000 grant from the Newton Medical Center Community Advisory Board.
“Our goal is to develop an extensive yet palatable and engaging child-abuse prevention program with four different population focuses: children, caretakers, professionals and the Spanish-speaking sommunity,” said community resource director Andrea Ryker.
Ginnie’s House employs two part-time members of its educational staff to get the project rolling.
“Far exceeding a ‘problem,’ child abuse is a mental health crisis,” said executive director Kristi Young. “One in seven children have experienced child abuse and/or neglect in the past year. Perpetrators know what we have been teaching our children and are already many steps ahead. Something must be done.”
With the grant, Ginnie’s House will be able to purchase awareness materials to aid in implementation of the program.
