Ginnie’s House gets $10,000 grant
NEWTON. Money will be used to purchase materials for lessons in body safety for all ages.
Ginnie’s House, a Newton-based nonprofit organization that coordinates services for children and non-offending caregivers when abuse is disclosed, has received a $10,000 grant from the Newton Medical Center’s Community Advisory Board.
“We have expanded our prevention education initiatives to such a degree as needing to hire a full-time prevention education coordinator,” said executive director Kristi Young.
After starting at Ginnie’s House last June, Belle Ward has taken on prevention initiatives by preparing and presenting lessons in body safety for all ages in all areas of Sussex County.
A nonprofit focused on safety for children, the Mama Bear Effect, has supplied many of the materials used in these lessons.
“The body safety lessons we provide are fun, simple and presented in a non-threatening manner - and have been very well-received,” Ward said.
The grant will be used to purchase materials to aid in the implementation of the program.
