— Sparta’s Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 26 will host its 6th annual Oktoberfest at Mohawk House on Saturday, Oct.8 at 2 p.m. This year’s fundraiser will benefit the 200 Club of Sussex County.
The 200 Club of Sussex County provides financial support in the amount of $10,000 to families of first responders who have lost their loved ones in the act of duty. The organization also funds scholarships to first responders and their children.
In light of recent, national events in which police officers have been targeted and exposed to violent aggression, this year’s benefactor resonated with the union when it came to decision-time. Lieutenant Neil Spidaletto of F.O.P. Lodge 26. co-chair of Oktoberfest, explained:
“The Sparta Fraternal Order of Police felt that this year in particular was an important year to focus our proceeds on such an organization. Police unfortunately have seen an increase in targeted, violent, and heinous acts directed towards them around the country including but certainly not limited to Dallas, Philadelphia, New York, and Baton Rouge.”
The 200 Club of Sussex County is privately and corporately sponsored through donations and outreach involving non-volunteer and volunteer firefighters, police and EMS workers.
“We are proud to say the original Oktoberfest started here,” said Steve Scro, owner of Mohawk House. “It’s always been a dream of mine to be part of the local community and make a difference. This event has traction. People come out and have a good time.”
“Sparta FOP Lodge #26 recognizes the continued support that it receives from the residents of our community, our associate members, as well as all of the local and county businesses and entities that support us throughout the year,” said Corporal Kurt Morris of Sparta F.O.P. Lodge 26.
The festive fall event on Saturday Oct .8 from 2 to 6 pm will have seasonal Oktoberfest beers, authentic German food and live music. Tickets are $45 each and can be purchased in advance at Mohawk House or by calling Cpl. Morris at 973-726-4068. Tickets will also be available at the door the day of the event.
