Fast feet grace Lodestar Park on patriotic weekend

NEWTON-- Memorial Weekend Sunday was filled with fast feet at Lodestar Park as The Stampede saw over 100 people come out to run and support The Bears Youth Running Program.
Jeff Staple, of Hamburg, was the race winner turning in a time of 19:19 over the triple loop course. "I thought it was fun to be able to hear music throughout the course," the 41-year-old, well-known area runner said. Dillon Johnstone, a cross-country running stand out at North Warren High School, was second with Paul Litterio, who runs for Kittatinny Regional High School, third.
On the women's side, it was beloved phys ed and health teacher, Meghan Radimer, who was the champion, clocking 23:22. Radimer was a three-sport star at High Point High School, Class of 2003, and is a member of the Sussex County Sports Hall of Fame. A number of her students from both the Fredon and Stillwater elementary schools, where she teaches, also participated in either the 5K or the Mile Fun Run. Lisa Prevedel, who ventured to the race from Bergen County, was second in the women's race and one of Radimer's former students, Ashley Espinosa, a stand-out runner at Kittatinny Middle School, was third.
Dean Giering loves to run but when it comes to this race, he said, "I'm in it for the food." One of the Stampede's hallmarks is a long counter filled with home baked goods for the participants after the race.
