— Most Bible teachings at a Sunday church service are very familiar. Listen to them told with a Scottish brogue, laced with personal stories, and they seem new. That’s what Rev. Ian Rankine, the new pastor at Andover Presbyterian Church, does in his Sunday sermons.
Rankine was born and brought up in central Scotland. A music lover, he plays guitar, bagpipes and enjoys singing. Rankine was licensed as a minister of the gospel in the Church of Scotland in 1995. He came to the United States in 1996. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2000. Rankine has served a variety of churches in North Carolina and New Jersey. His wife, Rev. Dr. Maureen Paterson, is an associate pastor at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church. They have four children: Gregor, 12; Angus, 9; Callum, 5; and Isla 3.
Sunday services are at 10 a.m. followed by an informal get-together in the downstairs fellowship hall. Andover Presbyterian Church is located just off Route 206 at the corner of Lenape Road and Route 517, Andover. For more information, call 973-786-5094.
