ANDOVER — The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Clean Communities Program provides funds for trash bags, gloves and other protective clothing to encourage volunteers to clean up solid waste in their communities. Andover Township in turn participates in this program by funding volunteer groups such as student council, Boy and Girl Scout Troops, etc... to periodically clean debris from alongside various township roads. Pre-registration is mandatory to ensure everyone has an appropriate assignment. To register, call 973-383-4280 ext. 234. The cleanup day will be April 21, starting at 9 a.m. at Hillside Park. A light breakfast will be served followed by the cleanup. All participants are invited back to the park at noon for a pizza lunch. The groups that participate are given supplies for the cleanup and also a donation to their organization. The township is accepting car and truck tires with or without rims that must be free of debris. The township has also arranged for electronic waste collection of computers, printers, televisions, VCRs, copiers, etc... The electronic waste container and tire drop off will be located in the lower parking lot. Tire and electronic waste can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on April 21 only.
