Amazing flavor for a good cause
What do ice cream and dogs have in common? On Sunday, June 2, the answer will be Windy Brow Farm.
From 1 pm to 3 pm, the farm will host a special event to benefit O.S.C.A.R. (One Step Closer Animal Rescue) featuring fun, food and the debut O.S.C.A.R. Orange Creamsicle ice cream, created to commemorate the non-profit.
“Windy Brow will be selling the O.S.C.A.R. Orange Creamsicle ice cream as well as their other amazing flavors and baked goods,” said Elaine Lo who volunteers at O.S.C.A.R., “One hundred perent of the proceeds from O.S.C.A.R. Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream go to OSCAR animal rescue.
Lo became involved with O.S.C.A.R. In 2011 when her family adopted their dog, Molley, from one of their adoption.
“Every day since, I am blown away at the dedication of this organization to save the lives of as many dogs and cats as they can,” Lo said. “They rescue animals from high kill shelters, from cruel pet owners , strays and any desperate situations. These dogs get the love, care and medical attention that the deserve and need. Then OSCAR finds them a loving family.”
She said that O.S.C.A.R. is very grateful to Jake Hunt at Windy Brow for his generosity .
“He was very enthusiastic about the idea and creating this ice cream flavor to benefit O.S.C.A.R.,” Lo said.
“Any profit from this new flavor will go to O.S.C.A.R.,” Hunt said. “This was a great collaboration that came together thanks to Lo facilitating the connection between us and O.S.C.A.R. We've always wanted to be involved with a local animal shelter in some way, and this is going to be perfect.”
Hunt said that the flavor uses fresh oranges and the combination with vanilla makes it delicious and unique. Windy Brow will give all proceeds from the O.S.C.A.R. Orange Creamsicle ice cream to the charity until the ice cream runs out.
“We are extremely excited to partner with Windy Brow,” said O.S.C.A.R. volunteer and president Cassie Prisco. “We love the idea of creating an ice cream flavor with them and having the proceeds benefit animals in need. And of course we had to name it --O.S.C.A.R. Orange Creamsicle --because orange is our signature color.”
The adoption event will include a lot of great animals looking for their forever homes.
“We invite everyone to come down, try some delicious ice cream, check out our animals for adoption, and have a great time,” Prisco said. “Thought this event is June 2nd, they will be selling the ice cream at Windy Brow the whole month of June to benefit our animal rescue.”
The event will take place on Sunday, June 2, at Windy Brow Farms, which is located at 359 Ridge Road in Newton. The event is free and open to the public.
