NEWTON — The Greater New Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will present a series of educational programs at Bristol Glen, a continuing care retirement community in Newton. The first presentation, Communication: The Key To Understanding Behaviors, will be held on Wednesday, March 28, from 7 to 8 p.m. Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease may present challenges. The ability to make sense of difficult behaviors can make a caregiver's job easier and may improve the quality of life for everyone involved. The presentation will teach participants how to avoid unnecessary arguments and recognize the triggers which may result in aggressive or risky behaviors. In addition, participants will learn communication techniques to effectively respond to repetitive actions, recognition difficulties, and anxious or agitated feelings. Light refreshments will be served, and tours of Bristol Glen’s Memory Support Residences will be available. For registration and more information, call the Alzheimer’s Association at 973-586-4300. For information on Alzheimer’s disease and for individuals, families and caregivers who are coping with the disease, call their help line at 1-800-272-3900, or visit www.alz.org/nj.
