Agriculture Conference at SCCC

To Help Cultivate Your Garden Dreams
NEWTON (April 22, 2019) – Sussex County Community College is pleased to announce the inaugural SCCC School of Agriculture Conference, a free, half-day event full of informative presentations to help local farmers and gardeners get the most out of their plot.
Free and open to the public, the Agriculture Conference, “What impacts farmers and crops? Weather, Pests and Pollinators,” is part of an ongoing effort to unite the SCCC Agriculture Department with professional and casual gardeners and farmers in the Garden State.
“We are so excited to be offering this new conference at SCCC,” said Erin Collins, Horticulturalist and the SCCC Agricultural Business and Horticultural Science Supervisor. “Not only will it be fun and informative, but it gives gardeners and farmers an opportunity to get to know each other, as well as see that the Community in Community College applies to them, as well.”
This special event will run 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 27, in the Student Center Theater on SCCC's Main Campus, 1 College Hill Road in Newton. Registration is required.
The conference includes three information-packed and useful presentations. “Weather Forecasting for Farmers and Gardeners,” will be led by Professor Thomas Else, Meteorologist; “Integrated Pest Management on the Farm,” by Erin Collins; and “The Buzz About Bees and Pollinator Needs,” by Beekeeper Jenny Shotwell, of The Farm at Gnome Hollow. Each presentation will last about 45 minutes with Q&As following each.
Coffee and breakfast snacks will be provided. This event is co-sponsored by Foodshed Alliance, Arthur & Friends, Windy Brow, Edible Jersey, and Kittatinny Mountain Farm.
