2 become Eagle Scouts

NEWTON. For their projects, Edward “EJ” Muldoon restored an animal paddock at Tamerlaine Sanctuary and Preserve in Montague, and Matteo Pascale restored the entryway at Hurdtown United Methodist Church in Jefferson.

Two members of Boy Scout Troop 85 of Andover-Newton recently earned the Eagle Scout rank: Edward “EJ” Muldoon and Matteo Pascale, both of Newton.

For his Eagle Scout project, Muldoon restored an animal paddock at Tamerlaine Sanctuary and Preserve in Montague.

He is a junior at Newton High School and a member of the boys soccer team.

For his Eagle Project, Pascale restored the entryway at Hurdtown United Methodist Church in Jefferson.

He is a 2024 graduate of Sussex County Technical School, where he was a member of the varsity soccer and track teams. He now attends Sussex County Community College studying optical engineering.

EJ Muldoon

Muldoon is the senior patrol leader of Troop 85 and is a member of Woapalanne Lodge 43 of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s honor society.

Muldoon has earned: 35 merit badges, three 50-miler awards for backpacking, the mile swim award and the National Outdoor Award for Camping, Hiking, Aquatics and Adventure.

He has accumulated more than 100 nights of camping and has participated in numerous high adventure hikes and backpacking trips, totaling more than 400 miles.

He has completed the New Jersey portion of the Appalachian Trail and backpacked half of the Appalachian Trail in New York. In addition, he has completed the Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and reached the summit of multiple 4,000-footers, including Mount Washington twice.

Most recently, Muldoon completed a 12 day Philmont Trek as the navigator of Crew 629-I-04.

Matteo Pascale

Pascale has earned: 26 merit badges and the National Outdoor Award for Camping.

He has accumulated more than 50 nights of camping and participated in numerous high adventure hikes, totaling more than 100 miles.

He has completed the New Jersey portion of the Appalachian Trail and has done high adventure hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, reaching the summit of multiple peaks including Mount Washington.

He is a member of Woapalanne Lodge 43 of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s honor society.
