Augusta – Don Hall, chairman of the SCARC Foundation board of trustees has announced that the 2017 Gordon Shelton Memorial Walk-a-thon in support of SCARC & SCARC Guardianship Services will be held at the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Sunday, May 21, 2017. The event will begin with registration at 11:00 PM and the walk will commence at 12:15 PM. All the proceeds raised by this event will support SCARC & SCARC Guardianship services throughout Sussex County.
Walkers and teams are being solicited at this time to become involved in this popular spring event. Last year, over 700 people attended the fun family event which raised over $130,000 for SCARC and SCARC Guardianship Services programs. Please visit scarcwalk2017.kintera.org to register to participate. Chris Hemmer, Chief Development Officer – SCARC Foundation, invites and encourages all Sussex County citizens to participate in this fun and important event. The 1.8 mile walk will occur on the road circumscribing the fairgrounds. In addition to the walk, and other fun games and activities will occur and lunch will be provided. The SCARC Foundation would like to thank our 2017 Walk-a-thon Presenting Sponsors: Thorlabs and Willis Towers Watson.
The funds raised from the walk will help SCARC Inc. and SCARC Guardianship Services, Inc. reach more than 750 people with developmental disabilities right here in Sussex County. The SCARC family of services is the largest comprehensive organization in Sussex County meeting the needs of this special population. The walk-a-thon donations are integral in maintaining SCARC’s recreational activities and respite care for people with developmental disabilities, as well as guardianship services and pro se legal advocacy programs provided by SCARC Guardianship Services, Inc.
