More than 1,500 students and teachers attended the Sussex County Teen Arts Festival on March 11 at Sussex County Community College (SCCC).
They came from 22 schools and arts studios. Four were participating for the first time.
The festival featured 500 pieces of artwork, 144 adjudicated student performances, and 40 hands-on workshops and demonstrations.
Selected works and performances will go on to represent Sussex County at the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival at Middlesex College in June.
“We are incredibly proud to host an event that celebrates the immense talent of Sussex County’s young artists,” said Anita Collins, the festival coordinator. “It’s inspiring to see students explore their creativity and gain confidence in their artistic pursuits.”
Nancy Gallo, associate vice president of academic affairs, said, “The Teen Arts experience introduces students to a diversity of arts and opens the door to future career opportunities.”
The festival received funding from SCCC, Sussex County school districts, and donations from individuals and businesses.
Funding was made available in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through the State/County Partnership Block Grant program, administered by the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council.
