Kittatinny park plans many activities

sussex county-Kittatinny Valley-State Park has announced its August and September schedule of programs. Programs sponsored by the park are free of charge and meet at the visitor center, one mile north of Route 206 off Goodale Road in Andover, unless otherwise noted. Pre-registration for park-sponsored programs is required, as space is limited. In case of inclement weather, all participants are urged to call the park office to determine whether programs have been cancelled or rescheduled. All programs may be subject to change. Share a morning with your child and introduce them to nature's wonders by joining the park naturalist for a story and an activity outdoors. BUTTERFLY BASICS Saturday, Aug. 7 11 - noon For adults with children ages 7 - 10. Learn what every beginning butterfly-watcher should know - the butterfly life cycle, how to identify common species, and how to create your own butterfly garden. Bring binoculars. KETTLE POND KAYAKIN6 Saturday. Aug. 14 8 a.m. For teens and adults. Bring your own kayak for this scenic exploration of the deepest natural lake in New Jersey. Learnabout lake ecology and the glacial history of the region. Previous kayaking experience required. HUNTERS OF THE SKY Saturday, Aug. 21 11 - noon For adults with children ages 7 and up. Discover the world of raptors - meet a live barred owl and red-tailed hawk. Learn about each raptor's special adaptations and have an up-close-and-personal encounter with feathers, beaks, talons, and calls. LATE BLOOMERS Saturday, Aug. 28 9 - 10:30 a.m. For teens and adults. Join the park naturalist on this informative and colorful walk observing the variety of wild flowers around the visitor center, focusing on the identification of common species, as well as their culinary and medicinal uses by Native Americans.
