College planning month at Lenape Valley
STANHOPE October at Lenape Valley High School is college planning month. Many events are being held now to get students excited for their next step to graduation. The fun began on Oct. 1 when college trivia was given during the morning announcements. A college fight song was also played. Students who correctly identify the school song each week win a prize. Trivia tidbits will be announced each day throughout October. Oct. 14 is Academic Awareness Day. Teachers can talk to students about their college years. “It’s an informal discussion about their experience, their likes and dislikes, whether they went to a big school or small school” said Paul DiRupo, Director of Guidance and Supervisor of Special Services at LVHS. Academic College Dress Day is October 21. Teachers can wear a sweatshirt from their alma mater and give anecdotal stories about their transition from high school to college. Advertisement videos from schools like Virginia Tech, Stanford, Rutgers, Notre Dame and Penn State will be played at various times throughout the last week of October. In addition, on-going PSAT and SAT testing will be held at the high school throughout the year. DiRupo hopes all of the activities this month will generate a spark in seniors that haven’t begun the application process. “I also want juniors to get excited for the whole process,” said DiRupo.
