Rev. Brown readies to celebrate Golden Anniversary
Sparta-Reverend Brown is celebrating it's 50th birthday. The school opened it's doors in Sept. 1954, a few months after the death of Fr. Brown, the pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Parish who established the school and welcomed the eight Benedictine Sisters of Elizabeth, who became the school's first educators. Currently some 500 students attend classes in the 20 classrooms of the school. The student body represents 340 families from the Our Lady of the Lake Parish as well as the surrounding communities. The newest students are the 50 youngsters who began a full day of school in the recently opened kindergarten. Rev. Brown has a staff of 21 full-time teachers, four teachers aids, five part-time teachers, a librarian, two secretaries, a nurse, two full-time maintenance men and new principal, Dr. Brain Duffy. Sr. Ruth Esposito, Fr. Thomas Mangieri, Associate Pastor and Msgr. Paul Knauer, Pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Parish, assist in the school and are involved teaching religion classes. To mark this milestone, the school is planning several events including a special preesentation on Oct. 15 at the school, and an evening at Lake Mohawk Country Club scheduled for Friday, Oct. 22.
