Irene Kruse, proud mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2021. She was 89.
She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and neighbor.
Irene was born to the late Samuel and Margaret Canney in Staten lsland, N.Y., on Aug. 1, 1931. After marrying Frank (“Moo”) Kruse on Nov. 14, 1953, at St. Mary of the Assumption, lrene and Moo settled in the Bulls Head section of Staten lsland. Upon retirement, lrene and Moo moved to Cranberry Lake, Byram Township, N.J., where they were members of the Community Club for 62 years.
Irene graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1949 and began work for Irving Trust in Manhattan. She then worked at Procter and Gamble on Staten lsland before starting her family. Raising her children was her most beloved accomplishment. After returning to the workforce, lrene worked for the New York City Board of Education before retiring in 1994.
Irene had a great sense of humor that she had until the end of her long and blessed life. lrene was a talented painter and gifted many of her paintings to family and friends. She was very active and loved to play golf, garden, read and do crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Peggy, James and his wife, Courtney, Katherine and her husband, Walter, Thomas and his wife, Natashia; along with her loving grandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, Corey, Kyle, Kaylee, Zachary, and Emmitt; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved and touched deeply.
Due to Covid, the funeral will be private for her immediate family only. A memorial service may follow in the future.
