Florence (Kaluzny) Blick of Sparta, N.J., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the Paramount Senior Living in Manassas, Va. She was 91.
She was born in Joliet, Ill., on July 7, 1929.
The youngest of seven children, she graduated from Joliet High School , Class of 1947. In 1955, she married Joseph Blick. The couple moved to Sparta in 1959. They were married 27 years before Joe passed away in 1982. The couple had three children, Jeff, Jenni, and Juli.
Florence was an enthusiastic bowler, involved in amateur leagues most of her adult life. As a frequent volunteer of the Church Mouse Thrift Store at the Sparta United Methodist Church, she was delighted to advertise the fashions available there by wearing them to church on Sundays.
Following her recovery from a fall in 1995, Florence also enjoyed her daily exercise, walking on the treadmill each morning at the Sparta Athletic Club.
In order to be nearer to her daughter, she moved to Manassas, Va., in March 2018. Florence dearly enjoyed her new community and was grateful for friendships with both residents and staff.
Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Jeffrey; and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenni Blick and grandson Thomas Velez, both of Warrenton, Va.; daughter Juli Dempsey of Millport, Scotland, former son-in-law James Dempsey of San Jose, Calif.; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews. and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Sparta Ambulance Squad or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Florence’s daughters wish to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Paramount Senior Living in Manassas and Vitas Hospice for their dedicated care especially during this catastrophic public health crisis.
Due to current restrictions, private funeral services will be held graveside at the time of burial at the Sparta Presbyterian and Methodist-Episcopal Cemetery.
