Girl Scouts earn Silver Award
BYRAM Girl Scouts Tara More and Rebecca Proctor were recently awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the second-highest honor in Girl Scouting. The award requires many hours of pre-requisite work along with a substantial volunteer project. Leadership skills, career exploration, and identifying and addressing community needs are the focus areas of the award. More earned her award by planning and implementing a fall cleanup in her neighborhood. She arranged for all supplies to be donated and made the project sustainable by initiating a recycling program. Proctor earned her award through working with younger Girl Scouts and teaching them about making more sustainable choices. The project included a lesson for Daisy Girl Scouts that addressed issues such as litter, recycling, and Earth Day. Her project also included a craft and beautification garden in Rebecca's neighborhood. Both More and Proctor have been Girls Scouts since Kindergarten and plan on continuing their involvement with the program through the level of Ambassador and earning the Girl Scout Gold Award.
