Delahanty recognized for volunteer service
GREENDELL McKenzie Delahanty, 11, of Green, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a state-level Certificate of Excellence from The 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Delahanty was nominated for this award by Green Hills School in Green Township, where she is a student. Presented annually by Prudential Financial in partnership with the national Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people across America for outstanding community service activities. McKenzie earned her award by having a fundraiser with over 500 people to cut their hair for locks of love, sold bracelets she made for the cure, did the tie a ribbon campaign two years in a row, participated in the race for the cure, and ran fun activities at Green Hills School to raise money. McKenzie called all the local organizations and collected information to have a table in her school lobby where people could take pamphlets. She wrote letters to the school principal and town mayor to get their support. She convinced a local business to donate school buses to take volunteers to the walks. She even got a local deli to donate pink bagels for the ride. The recipients of these awards vividly demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities, said John R. Strangfeld, Chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial.
