Superior Court Judge Janine Allen has been assigned to the Superior Court Family Division in Sussex County.

The Sparta resident succeeds Judge William McGovern III, who retired.

Gov. Phil Murphy appointed her to be a judge in June.

Allen was born in the United Kingdom and moved to Sussex County after graduating from Leicester University.

After graduating from Seton Hall Law School in 2008, she worked for a local law firm before joining the Public Defender’s Office, where she spent many years defending clients in Family and Criminal Court in Morris, Sussex and Warren counties.

Allen has served on boards and volunteered for local nonprofit organizations for many years.

She was sworn in as president of the Sussex County Bar Association in 2018, was the Sussex County mock trial coordinator for 13 years, and served as trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association from 2021 to 2023.
